Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Friday warned the BNP that if the party creates any anarchy in the name of movement, the government would take stern action to stop that.
“The BNP does not abide by rule of law and court procedures. Appropriate reply will be given if the BNP create any anarchy in the name of anti-government agitation,” Obaidul Quader said while addressing the inaugural session of the National Council of Awami Matshyajibi League at Krishibid
Institution Bangladesh (KIB) auditorium in the capital on Friday.
“The party has taken worst tricks to create pressure on the court for the release of the party Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia. The partymen carried out vandalism, hurled brickbats on the premises of court and launched attacks on police,” he said.
He asked Awami League leaders and workers to remain alert saying conspiracy is being hatched to thwart the government.
The AL General Secretary said failing to wage any movement and rejecting by the country people, BNP became a party of lodging complaints.
“Finding no space for them in the country, the party is repeatedly knocking the doors of foreigners for making complaints,” the Minister said.
Awami League Presidium Member Matia Chowdhury, Office Secretary Dr Abdus Sobhan Golap and Relief and Social Welfare Secretary Sujit Roy Nandi were present on the occasion, among others.
Matshyajibi League Council Preparatory Committee convener Narayan Chandra Das presided over the function. Later in the council session, Obaidul Quader announced the names of newly elected leaders of Matshyajibi League.
Md Saifur Rahman and Sheikh Ajgar Laskar were elected President and General Secretary respectively of the organization. Earlier, in the morning, the Awami League General Secretary inaugurated the council.
