Woman killed brutally in city: Stepson among six held

Police have arrested six people, including the deceased’s step son, on charge of killing and burning the body of a 33-year-old woman Seema Akhter in Kafrul area of the capital.
They were arrested on Monday.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kafrul Police Station Selimuzzaman confirmed the matter to The New Nation and said that the arrestees have been sent to court after arrest. However, son SM Ashikur Rahman Nahid, 26, has confessed in court that he tried to burn her body with fire after hacking to death his stepmother Seema Akther, 31, in Kafrul.
On Monday, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Nivana Khair Jesse recorded the confessional statement under Section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
Meanwhile, five other accused in the case have been sent to jail. Metropolitan Magistrate Shahinur Rahman ordered them to be sent to jail.
They are identified as Zakia Sultana Iren (22), Asek Ullah (50), Rokeya Begum (40), Shahjahan Sikder (50) and Shakib (20). Earlier, law enforcers also arrested three people for inquiring in the incident.
On Sunday afternoon, police recovered victim Seema’s body from a house of Imam Nagar under Baishtek area of the city. Later, the victim’s brother filed a murder case with Kafrul police station.
