Steps to be taken to launch 2nd unit of Rajshahi Jute Mills: Azam

State Minister for Textile and Jute Mirja Azam, MP, has said necessary measures will be taken to launch the second unit of Rajshahi Jute Mills soon.
“During the tenure of present government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, no more closure of jute mills in the country. Even, all the dysfunctional jute mills will be functional,” he categorically said.
The state minister made these observations while views sharing with the officials and employees of Rajshahi Jute Mills at its boardroom on Tuesday afternoon with Engineer Ziaul Haque, Project Chief of the mill in the chair.
Ayen Uddin, MP, BJMC General Manager Abul Hossain and all other officials concerned were present at the meeting.
Mirja Azam said many of the jute mills had been declared layoff during the period of the previous BNP-led four-party alliance government that had also taken decision to layoff the Rajshahi Jute Mills.
But considering the issue of welfare of the people Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina decided to restart the mill.
Besides, launching process of the second unit has been initiated. More than 200 spinning units and milling machines were set up here. He hoped that around 1200 people will get job in the new unit. He said Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had nationalized all the jute mills. Prime Minister Hasina has undertaken necessary measures to keep all the mills functional.
Terming the jute industry as potential one he told the meeting that three countries, Syria, Lebanon and Sudan, are very much keen to purchase jute and jute goods from Bangladesh.
He expressed his hope that trade contract will be signed very soon in this regard. Later, the state minister went round different sections of the existing mill and the new unit.
