‘Steps taken to ensure women’s political empowerment’

State Minister for Women and Children’s Affairs Begum Meher Afroz told that the present government has taken various steps to ensure political empowerment of the country’s women folk.
The steps include: nomination of women’s representation in the Jatiya Sangsad (Parliament) like Speaker, Deputy Leader, Opposition Leader, induction of Prime Minister and another three in the cabinet, 70 women MPs, increasing women reserved seats in JS from 30 to 50, upazila vice-chairman and women quotas in the jobs.
The state minister said this while replying to a question of Amina Ahmed from women seat-34 on Thursday during the question and answer session in the House with Speaker

Responding to another question of Noor Jahan Begum from women reserved seat-42, she said the government has taken different projects including promotional and training activities to ensure employment opportunities for rural women.
“The women affairs directorate has also taken a training project on
“Empowerment of Women Through Technology Transfer” to provide training for rural poor women and this project is yet to get approval of the planning commission. Referring to a question of treasury bench member Habibur Rahman Molla, the state minister said another project of Bangladesh Shishu Academy to rehabilitate the street and slum children is under process.
Afroz said the work on setting up two child development centers at Ajimpur and Keranignaj in Dhaka is being implemented under the Bangladesh Shishu Academy.
The distressed and under privileged children are being rehabilitated through the centers by providing them with food and accommodation, education, treatment and cultural training, she added.
On a question of Begum Lutfa Taher from Women seat -40, Meher Afroz said one-stop-crisis centre has been set up at the country’s at eight medical college hospitals to provide legal assistance to those became the victims of violation. “Besides, 40 one-stop-crisis centers in district hospital and 20 others at upazila health complex were set up in this connection,” she added.
