Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan said the government has taken necessary initiatives to control carbon dioxide emission from ships into water territory of Bangladesh.
“We have to take steps for prevention of marine water pollution in line with rules of International Marine Transportation and Marine Agency,” he said this on Sunday while speaking at a discussion on “Ship Emission Control under MARPOL” at the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) here, an official release said.
Shajahan said alongside promoting ship manufacturing industry, the government has taken different initiatives to check environment pollution.
Shipping Secretary Mohammad Abdus Samad, Chairman of BIWTA Commodore M Mozammel Haque and senior officials of different department concerned, among others, were present at the discussion.
