Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammad Nasim on Wednesday said the government has already undertaken all-out measures to contain the infected mosquito carrying viral disease chikungunya and formed a 30-member committee to observe the situation.
Making a statement under Rule-300 of the Rules of Procedure of the House, the minister said the government has formed the national committee comprising high official from the directorate of health, city corporation, representatives from the donor agencies, civil societies, media people and entomologists for taking further action after assessing the overall situation.
Besides, the government has opened ‘help desk’ at public hospitals at the national, divisional, district and upazila level and arthology clinics have also been opened for providing treatment to the affected people.
In addition to this, the government already has launched a massive campaign on chikungunya in 92 wards in the capital involving around 12000 teachers, students and nurses from different public and private hospitals, medical, dental and nursing institutions, said the minister.
The government has formulated a guideline on chikungunya and all the physicians, nurses and medical assistants at the district and upazila level have been imparted training based on the guideline.
The government is intensively observing the situation of chikungunya, a viral disease transmitted to humans by infected mosquitoes, apart from the outbreak of dengu.
The government also has opened a chikungunya control room and chikungunya hotline with contact numbers 01937110011 and 01937000011, he added.
