UNB, Dhaka :
State-owned Power Grid Company of Bangladesh (PGCB) has undertaken a move to build another 400 kV high voltage transmission line in the country.
The double circuit 70-km long new transmission line will be installed from Ashuganj of Brahmanbaria to Bhulta of Narayanganj. About Tk 280 crore has been estimated as the cost of the project.
At present, only a few such high voltage transmission lines are in operation including Aminbazar-Meghnaghat and Bheramara in Kushtia-Baharampur in India.
The PGCB on Wednesday signed a contract with Indian contractor KEC International Ltd to install the line within the next 20 months. PGCB company secretary Md. Asraf Hossain and KEC country head KK Sinha signed the contract on behalf of their respective sides. The new transmission project will be implemented with financing from PGCB’s own funds, that the government will top-up as necessary.
