Awami League Advisory Council member Suranjit Sengupta, MP, on Monday stressed the need for taking steps by the government to stop local and international financing of militant outfits. “It will not be possible to uproot militancy as long as we are unable to stop financing of militant outfits. Many local and international financers are intruding into Bangladesh. The amount of such money is not merely one hundred or two hundred crores Taka but in terms of thousands of crores of Taka,” he said.
Suranjit Sengupta, a senior parliamentarian of the ruling Awami League, said this while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion on current politics organised by Bangabandhu Academy at the auditorium of the Institution of Diploma Engineers at Kakrail in the city. Assistant Secretary to Awami League sub-committee Narayan Debnath presided over the discussion, also addressed, among others, by Samyabadi Dal leader Haroon Chowdhury, freedom fighter Abdul Hye Kanu and Bangabandhu Academy secretary general Humayun Kabir Mizi.
Calling upon the policy planners of Awami League to constitute a task force to restore discipline in all its associate and likeminded bodies, Suranjit Sengupta said, “Discipline should have to be restored in the Awami League’s associate bodies right now.
Firstly, the students’ body should have to be taken towards morality and ideologies. For this, a task force should be constituted with former ideologist leaders of Chhatra League like Tofail Ahmed, Syed Ashraful Islam and Obaidul Quader.” “I believe that discipline, ideology and morality would be automatically restored in the associate bodies including Chhatra League if they (Task force) tour throughout the country,” the senior Awami League leader opined.
