Steps must be taken to conserve intellectual property

The scientists and experts on Tuesday underscored the necessity of taking proper steps to conserve the intellectual property rights of the inventors, researchers and developers. They also said that our country has lost many glories, like Jamdani textiles, Hilsa, due to lacking in awareness of intellectual property rights.
They were addressing a daylong training programme on intellectual property rights was held in Syed Nazrul Islam Hall of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU).
In his keynote speech, Prof Dr Lutful Hasan said that, the inventors and researchers should be aware of their intellectual property and take necessary protections to save their property.
BAU vice-chancellor Prof Dr Ali Akbar was addressed as chief guest with Prof Dr Jasimuddin in the chair.
BAU VC said that the first ever technology transfer office will be established on BAU campus with a view to increase the interaction between inventor, entrepreneur, stakeholder, and consumer through conserving the intellectual property rights.
Among others, dean of veterinary faculty Prof Dr Abdus Samad, dean of fisheries faculty Prof Dr Subhas Chandra Chakraborty, director general of BFRI Dr Yahia Mahamud, Prof Dr Md Serajul Islam, Prof Dr M Jahiruddin, Prof Dr Emdadul Haque Chowdhury, and Prof Dr M Obaidul Islam spoke. Teachers and postgraduate students of veterinary and fisheries faculty and researchers from Bangladesh Fisheries Research Institute (BFRI) attended the programme.
