State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism Md Mahbub Ali said the government is taking necessary measures to develop tourism in the country’s haor region. “Necessary measures are being taken for developing haor-based tourism in the country. Elaborate programmes will be taken after formulation of the tourism mega plan,” he said this while speaking at a virtual workshop. Bangladesh Tourism Board (BTB) arranged the workshop in Sunamganj aiming to include tourism in local development plans and create mass awareness about tourism, an official press release said. Mahbub said tourists, in recent time, are visiting the haor areas to enjoy its scenic beauty and that is why local administrations have to take measures to ensure their security.
Besides, he said, effective measures must be taken to prevent construction of unplanned structures in haors and unwanted disturbance of tourists, which hampers the environmental balance in the haor areas.
Stressing the need for involving local people in tourism industry to maintain ecological balance in the haors, the state minister said there is no alternative to creating awareness among them about the importance of ecotourism.
BTB chief executive officer Jabed Ahmed, deputy commissioner of Sunamganj Md Abdul Ahad and BTB director Abu Taher Mohammad Jaber were, among others, joined the workshop.
