Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) has taken up a massive plan to cultivate different Robi crops in six upazilas of the district during the current season.
DAE office sources said, a total of 73,536 hectares of land would be brought under the cultivation in the district with the production target of 4,52,462 tonnes of different crops.
Of the total, some 54,710 hectares of land would be brought under Boro cultivation with the production target of 2, 21,279 tonnes of rice, 200 hectares of land would be brought under wheat cultivation to produce 600 tonnes, 200 hectares of land would be brought under potato cultivation with the production target of 40,000 tonnes, 1,000 hectares of land would be brought under sweet potato cultivation for producing 16,500 tonnes.
Besides, mustard would be cultivated on 3,290 hectares of land with the production target of 3,948 tonnes of mustard, ground nut on 150 hectares for producing 225 tonnes, sugarcane on 130 hectares with the production target of 6,240 tonnes, vegetables on 8,880 hectares to produce 1,66,056 tonnes, various pulse on 916 hectares with the production target of 981 tonnes.
Onion will be cultivated on 300 hectares with the production target of 2,400 tonnes, garlic on 320 hectares to produce 2,080 tonnes, chili on 1,330 hectares with the production target of 1,795 tonnes and coriander on 310 hectares for producing 358 tonnes of coriander.
Meanwhile, cultivation of some of these crops has already started. BADC also has started supplying quality seeds to the farmers, DAE sources said.
