Steamer tickets available online from May 1

Tickets for passenger-carrying steamers of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) will be available online from May 1.
This will reduce sufferings of the people to avail tickets for waterway travelling, said Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan.
The minister was speaking at a function at the shipping ministry meeting room on the occasion of signing of an agreement between BIWTC and online firm Shohoz Limited.
BIWTC Secretary M. Fazlul Karim and Shohoz Limited Managing Director Maliha Qadir signed the agreement on behalf of their respective organizations.
Shipping Secretary Shafiq Alam Mehedi and BIWTC Chairman M Mizanur Rahman were present at the agreement signing ceremony, among others.
Tickets would be available for passengers at www.shohoz.com. Besides, tickets could be obtained by calling 16374.
Online passenger tickets of steamers can be bought in advance five days before a journey.
Shohoz Limited will charge an additional amount of Taka 21 for every ticket and Taka 50 in case of home delivery. It can also charge Taka 10 as service charge for every third ticket. Shohoz Limited will sell tickets of 74 first class and second class cabin tickets and all third class tickets of MV Bangalee, PS Mahmud, PS Atrit, PS Lepcha, PS Turn and MV Sela.
The BIWTC will deal with the tickets of VIP and other cabins.
