Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday urged the students to stay away from all sorts of terrorism, militancy and drug addiction to build themselves as worthy citizens and then contribute to the nation building.
“You’ll (students) keep yourselves away from the influence of militancy, terrorism as well as from all drug abuse to grow as worthy citizens and build the country,” she said.
Sheikh Hasina was delivering her speech after receiving the results of this year’s HSC and its equivalent exams on Thursday from Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid at her official residence Ganobhaban.
The Prime Minister hoped that the students would also develop their good characters, lead a better life, flourish their talents and steer the country towards prosperity as they will have to take its leadership in the future.
Hasina said Bangladesh will be turned into a nation of educated people and the government is making all-out efforts to ensure the access of all boys and girls to education to achieve the target.
“We’re striving to build a poverty-free country, for which an educated nation is very much indispensable,” she added. Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid along with chairmen of all education boards formally
handed over the copies of the results to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Education Secretary Sohrab Hossain and senior officials of the ministry and the education boards were present.
Congratulating the students and all others related to education and examinations, the Prime Minister said the students of Bangladesh, in global perspective, are not less bright than those of other countries. “They’ve already proved their worth in global arena, and what they need is just the scope to flourish their talents.”
Noting that the female students did better than their male counterpart this year, Hasina suggested the male students to be a bit more attentive to their education while the guardians and teachers to be more careful.
Acknowledging the sufferings of the students in haor and hilly areas due to geographical location, the Prime Minister said her government has a plan to set up residential schools in those areas for helping them continue their academic activities smoothly.
The Prime Minister also renewed her vow to set up a government college in every upazila alongside a university either under public or private initiative. Later, the Prime Minister talked to successful students, teachers, officials, local representatives and distinguished persons of Sunamgonj and Cox’s Bazar districts through a videoconferencing.
