Renewing her resolve to crush terrorism and militancy from the country with the help of people, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday urged all to stay alert as terrorists are using ICT in their evil works.
“Though good works are done through the ICT, the terrorists and militants are also using it… we’ll have to be very alert in this regard,” she said. The Prime Minister was addressing the inaugural ceremony of the two-day ‘Civil Service in Development Innovation-2016’ Summit at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Novo Theatre here aimed at highlighting Digital Bangladesh and Vision-2021 through different innovations at home and abroad.
Sheikh Hasina said, “This is our county. Let’s engage ourselves in innovating and utilising ICT for the country’s development. Let’s sacrifice our present for the future generation. I firmly believe, we can uproot terrorism and militancy from our soil forever with the help of people.” She asked the government employees of every sector like the administration, law enforcement agencies, agriculture, education, health, information & technology, communication and infrastructure development to think again to develop the country and generate new ideas and innovation. “I firmly believe, together you all will build a modern, service-oriented, proactive civil service to meet the challenges of 21st century,” she added.
Chaired by Cabinet Secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam, Project Director of Access to Information (A2I) Programme and Director General of Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) Kabir bin Anwar delivered the address of welcome. Md Abul Kalam Azad, UNDP Country Director Pauline Tamesis spoke on the occasion. A short documentary titled ‘A tale of transformation’ was also screened.
Earlier, the Prime Minister distributed awards to three best districts-Brahmanbaria, Jessore and Chittagong-and best Division Dhaka Division -for efforts to establish ‘Digital Bangladesh’. Deputy Commissioners and Divisional Commissioner concerned received the awards from the Prime Minister.
Sheikh Hasina asked the public servants to give more attention on how to develop further the country through their thoughts. “People won’t come to us, rather we’ll go to people with services and this would be our policy and thoughts.” Noting that modern, dynamic and innovative civil service can take the country at the highest peak of development, she said, “They’re using information technology, science, knowledge, talent and experience at the maximum level as well as adapting themselves with new strategy and innovation.”
Reminding the government employees that they have been playing the main role to materialise the initiatives to make ‘Digital Bangladesh’, she said, “We’ve made ‘Innovation Fund’ to patronise innovation. Some 103 projects have been implemented with the help of service innovation fund at a cost of Tk 200 million. An innovative platform named ‘Idea Bank’ has also been introduced to accelerate innovative culture.”
Highlighting various achievements and successes of her government in building ‘Digital Bangladesh’, the Prime Minister said ‘Digital Bangladesh’ is not a dream now but it is a reality as digital technology is being used almost everywhere in citizen life. “We’ve provided government service to people’s doorstep by establishing Digital Centre in Union Parishad, Municipality and City Corporation. Infrastructure in IT sector has massively been developed. Optical Fiber Connectivity has been started in country’s every upazila. Inter-connectivity has been made rapid and easy through video conferencing,” she added.
