Chattogram Bureau :
Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, State Minister for Shipping, after inspecting the damaged area of BM Container Depot at Sitakunda on June 6, met the senior officials of Chattogram Port Authority in the evening on that day.
Addressing among the presented officials, State Minister said, “Various quarters are feeling jealous of the way Bangladesh is moving forward under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. They are engaged in various propagandas to stop the pace of development of the country.” He requested all not to be distracted by any propaganda.
He gave direction to the BM Container Depot to find out the real cause of the accident through an impartial inquiry.
He urged the officials of Chattogram Port Authority to perform their duties with caution. In particular, he urged the officers / staff to be trained through proper use of fire and safety equipment and regular fire drills so that any accident can be dealt with immediately.
He also requested the customs authorities and the National Board of Revenue (NBR) to expedite the disposal of the hazardous goods awaiting auction inside the port so that the only lifeline in the country, Chattogram Port, remains risk free.
Rear Admiral M Shahjahan, Chairman of Chattogram Port Authority, thanked the State Minister for his instructive remarks. He called upon all the officers and employees of the port to discharge their duties with courage. He directed to conduct compulsory fire training for all the officers and employees of the port.
