A court here on Tuesday granted bail to The Daily Star Editor and Publisher Mahfuz Anam in a defamation case.
Senior Judicial Magistrate Imtiajul Islam granted him the bail on a bond of Tk2,000 after hearing the lawsuit.
The court also fixed May 19 for next hearing in the case.
Magura district unit Jubo League vice-president Saberul Islam Sabuj filed the Tk5 crore libel suit against Mahfuz with the Senior Judicial Magistrate’s Court on February 18 for publishing ‘confusing’ and ‘defamatory’ reports in his daily on Awami League President Sheikh Hasina during the military-backed caretaker government. The court summoned the accused to appear before it on the day.
