Standard Chartered Bank, Bangladesh provided scholarships to top students of Dhaka University Department of Development Studies and Department of Economics, says a press release.
Shitangshu Kumar Sur Chowdhury, Advisor, Bangladesh Bank attended the event as chief guest. Professor Dr. Sadeka Halim, Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, Professor Dr. Shafique uz Zaman, Chairman, Department of Economics and Professor Dr. Md. Reazul Haque, Chairman, Department of Development Studies, all from University of Dhaka and Jowher Rizvi, Vice President, Dhaka University Economics Department Alumni Association (DUEDAA) were also present. Representing Standard Chartered Bank, Bangladesh was Naser Ezaz Bijoy, Chief Executive Officer and Bitopi Das Chowdhury, Head of Corporate Affairs, Brand & Marketing.
Speaking to recipients of the award, Naser Ezaz Bijoy, Chief Executive Officer, Standard Chartered Bank Bangladesh, said, “I see many parallels in your stories and that of our country. The amazing growth story of our nation is characterized by resilience, a trait that has been key to your own success. But this is not the end of the story, both as a nation and individually, this is just the beginning. In order for the country to achieve its full potential, so must you.”
He added, “It is more important to be a good human being than being a good student and education will give you the tools to be a better human being than you would otherwise be. It is the strength of character based on education, will make you a good human being. You must dream big. Aspire to make a difference, not just to make living. As recipients of the Governor’s scholarship, all of you have demonstrated that you have the resilience to overcome adversity and make positive difference to our society and country.”
60 students from Department of Economics and 19 Students from Department of Development Studies were awarded the “Governor Scholarship”. Till date, there have been a total of 594 awards under the Governor Scholarship. The ceremony held at Professor Muzaffar Ahmed Chowdhury Auditorium, Social Sciences Faculty Bhaban of Dhaka University.
