The day to day activities of the Education Ministry is being hampered due to the recent split of the ministry into two divisions. The government is yet to announce the name of new officials to look into the new divisions. As a result, the ministry has become virtually stagnant.
“We are waiting for new signing authority to do our paper work. As there is no signing authority we cannot move a single file,” an official of the ministry seeking anonymity told The New Nation yesterday.
The government spilt the Education Ministry into “Secondary and Higher Education Division, and Technical and Madrasah Education Division” on Wednesday with a view to bringing dynamism in its activities.
Visiting the Education Ministry on Monday this reporter observed that the officials of the ministry are passing their idle times. Some rooms were seen empty and some were seen gossiping.
A Deputy Secretary of the Ministry wishing anonymity told The New Nation that the minister and some deputy secretaries have signing power now. “The minister takes decision about a project if it is an emergency one. Otherwise, almost all works have been stopped in the ministry,” he said.
“Secretaries, joint-secretaries and additional secretaries are the chiefs of many projects. The Ministry will get back its life after the appointment of the top officials,” he said.
Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid told the media on Monday that the beginning of activities of the two divisions of the Ministry is a matter of time. A list to appoint of the officials has been sent to the concern authorities.
“The ongoing situation of the ministry will be solved soon,” the minister said.
