Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Youth and Sports Zahid Ahsan Russel said the present government has taken steps to build stadiums and playgrounds at upazila level for development of sports and games in the country.
“The present government has taken various initiatives for the development of sports and games side by side with the improvement of the standard of education. As part of the initiatives, stadiums and playgrounds will be built at upazila level,” Russel said.
He said this while addressing a function on the occasion of the annual sports competition and prize distribution ceremony of Bhawal Ideal Academy at Khailkur village under Gazipur City Corporation on Wednesday afternoon, a release said.
Founder of Bhawal Ideal Academy journalist Ataur Rahman in the chair, the function was addressed by founder principal of Bangbandhu College, Gaccha, Advocate Mohiuddin Ahmed Mohi, Gazipur City Corporation Ward Councilor Zillur Rahman Mukul, Women Councilor Shrin Akhtar, Daily Mukto Balaka Editor and former general secretary of Gazipur Press Club Alamgir Hossain, Gazipur City Awami League leader Hazi Moniruzzaman Monir, District Sramik League leader Mazibur Rahman, Director of the academy journalist Moniruzzaman and Principal Ayub Ali.
As many as 250 students took part in 62 events of the competition. Later, a colourful cultural function was arranged with the participation of the students.
