Stability for dev stressed

Speakers at a seminar held here on Saturday emphasized on the need for establishing a stable society for sustainable development of the country.
The seminar titled ‘Bangladesh Development Performances and Future Challenges’ was held under the joint auspices of Chittagong Independent University (CIU) and Chittagong Centre for Advanced Studies (CCAS) at CIU Conference Hall in the afternoon.
Dr Syed Sajjadur Rahman, Senior Fellow, School of International Development and Global Studies, Ottawa, Canada and former Director General, presented the keynote paper in the seminar while Dr Wahiduddin Mahmud, former Advisor to the Caretaker Government and, Economics, Dhaka University, Dr Salehuddin Ahmed, former Governor, Bangladesh Bank spoke on the occasion as the special guests.
Syed Mahmudul Huq, Member, Board of Trustees, Chittagong Independent University chaired the seminar.
Besides, Prof Shamsul Hossain, Secretary, Chittagong Centre for Advanced Studies, Prof Dr Irshad Kamal Khan, Prof Mohammad Ali Taslim, Moslehuddin Khaled, Dr Syed Manzur Quader, Zillul Hye Razi, Trade Advisor, delegation of the European Union to Bangladesh Dr Mohammad Abdul Mazid also spoke on the seminar. The speakers also opined that the existing bureaucratic systems of the country should be changed for attraction of the foreign investment.
In the keynote paper it was mentioned that Bangladesh has an annual GDP growth that has been achieved continuously over 6 per cent.
The paper said, this country needs a stable governance for continued economic growth. Stability is the prime need of the hour for the sustainable development of Bangladesh, it said. For steady economic growth, the speakers laid emphasis on the private sector development.
The paper further said that Bangladesh is no more a foreign loan dependent state now.
