A group of students assaulted Ashraf Milton, president of Socialist Student Front (SSF) Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) unit, on Wednesday with an allegation of hijacking cell phone.
The group of assaulters was led by a charge- sheeted accused over Saad killing incidence and also a Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) activist Foysal Islam Joy.
Eye witnesses said, on Wednesday night at around 9:30pm a group of 15-20 students, led by Joy, chased Milton chattering ‘thief, thief’ in front of Ashraful Haque Hall and then started to punch him. They took him to the guest room of Shaheed Shamsul Haque Hall. He was assaulted there in front of some BCL activists of different dormitories. Receiving information BAU chief security officer rescued him and took him to his office. Later, he was admitted to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH).
On that night SSF activists protested the attack demonstrating sit in in front of the residence of BAU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Md Rafiqul Haque. Later, activists of BCL dispersed them from that place.
About this incident BAU Proctor Prof Dr Harun-Or-Rashid said, “This is a sad incident in the campus. Necessary steps will be taken after proper investigation to this effect.”
While contacted Milton said, “Listening their voice, I stopped walking while I was returning to my dormitory after having my meal. All on a sudden they started to beat me and took me to the guest room. In the guest room they assaulted me in front of Polash, Mahir, Bappi, Apu, Rintu, Akondo, Limon and others, all of whom are BCL activist. As I participated in the protest over Saad killing issue Joy done it to me preplanned, I think.”
On the other hand Joy claimed, “Someone took my mobile when I was talking over it. After holding and identifying him, I with my fellows took him to the guest room of Shaheed Shamsul Haque Hall and called the administration to take necessary steps about this hijacking. Neither I nor my fellows assaulted him there.”
On Thursday the activists of leftist parties of under the banner of “Progotishil Cchatra Jot” brought out protest rally. In the rally they alleged, the charge sheeted accused persons were involved in that incident.
