SSC pass rate drops

1, 04,761 get GPA-5: 2,468 schools achieve 100 pc pass rate; No pass in 93 schools

A total of 14,31,722 examinees out of 17,81,962 passed in the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and equivalent examinations 2017.
The pass rate in SSC is 81.21 percent, in vocational 78.69 percent and in madrasa 76.20 percent. About 80.35 percent students passed under all boards.
Last year, a total of 14,52,605 students out of 16,45,201 passed in the examinations with 88.29 percent pass rate.
Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid announced the result in a press briefing in the Conference Room of the Education Ministry.
Secretary of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Division Md Sohrab Hossain, officials and chairmen of all education boards, among others, were present on the occasion.
In the morning, Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid handed over the copies of the results to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at 10am in her official Ganobhaban residence.
A total of 1, 04,761 students got the highest Grade Point Average (GPA-5) in the SSC and equivalent examinations under 10 education boards across the country this year. The number of such students was 1,09,761 last year.  
Among the GPA-5 holders, 53,488 are males and 51,273 female students.
According to the statistics of the SSC results, a total of 97,964 students achieved GPA-5 under eight general education boards, while 2,610 students obtained the grade under madrasa education board and 4,187 under technical education board.
A total of 412 students from eight foreign centres came out successful in the SSC examinations this year with 94.28 per cent pass rate.
A total of 437 students appeared in the SSC examinations in foreign centres. Of the successful students, 112 secured GPA-5.
Rajshahi Education Board secured the top position among 10 education boards with 90.70 percent pass rate in the SSC and equivalent examinations while Comilla Education Board was at the bottom with 59.03 percent pass rate.
The pass rate in Dhaka Board is 86.39 per cent, while it is 77.24 per cent in Barisal Board, 80.04 per cent in Jessore Board, 83.98 per cent in Dinajpur Board, 83.99 per cent in Chittagong Board, 80.26 per cent in Sylhet Board, 76.20 per cent in Madrasa Board and 78.69 per cent in Technical Education Board and 59.03 percent in Comilla Board.
Meanwhile, a total of 2,468 educational institutions achieved 100 percent pass rate in 2017 SSC and equivalent examinations. The number was 4,734 last year.
No student passed in this year’s examination from 39 institutions. About 1.43 million students sat for the SSC examinations under eight general education boards, 256,501 students under the madrasa board and 104,212 students for the SSC vocational examinations.
The theoretical SSC and equivalent examinations took place between February 2 and March 2, while the practical examinations were held between March 4 and March 11.
The SSC and equivalent examinations results were available through SMS for all mobile operators.
Students or their guardians can type ‘SSC/DAKHILthe first three letters of the board’s namestudent’s roll number2017′ and send the message to 16222 to receive the results in an SMS response.
The results are also available on the education boards’ website, educationboardresults.gov.bd.
Requests to review examination results can be made through state-run mobile operator Teletalk from May 5 to 11.
To review the results, students or their guardians can type ‘RSCthe first three letters of the board’s nameroll numbersubject code’ and send the SMS to 16222.
An SMS response will inform the sender of the revision fee and provide them with a personal identification number or PIN. If the sender agrees, they can type ‘RSCYESthe PIN numbera mobile contact number’ and send the SMS to 16222.
For every subject and every paper to be reviewed, Tk 125 will be charged. Tk 250 will be charged for subjects with two papers. More than one subject can be reviewed through the same SMS by separating their subject codes with a comma.
