The Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examination is likely to be held in August but the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examination will be delayed.
Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education on Sunday came up with the decision to hold the SSC exams in August, but they could not give specific date, which is hampering the smooth flow of academic calendar.
The Inter-Education Board Examination Regulatory Committee on April 27 announced the
schedule for the SSC examinations from June 19, but it were postponed on June 17, considering the flood situation in different districts.
The public examinations – SSC and HSC and equivalent examinations – have been facing various obstacles over the last three years due to the pandemic or the natural calamities like flood, forcing the anomalies in academic calendar.
Such hamper in education has caused drop-outs in large number in different streams of education.
However, a relief came for the students when the Inter-Education Board Coordination Committee on Sunday took the decision to hold the SSC and equivalent exams in August.
“We have come to a decision to hold the SSC examinations in August, considering the flood situation,” Prof Tapan Kumar Sarkar, Chairman of the Dhaka Education Board said.
He also said that the fresh routine of the SSC and equivalent examinations will be published after Eid vacation.
“The date of the SSC examination has not been fixed yet. We will hold another meeting after Eid vacation to fix the date,” he added.
The Dhaka Education Board Chairman also hinted that the HSC exams will also be delayed and decision will be taken after the Eid vacation.
However, the authority concerned urged the students to carry out their studies properly in any situation so that they can take part in the exams properly.
Nearly 19 lakh students across the country registered to participate in the SSC and equivalent examinations this year.
Contrarily more than 23 lakh students were registered in Class IX in 2020. It means some four lakh students have already dropped out during the pandemic.
Sources said that among the drop-out students, more than 50 pc were females.
The SSC examinations in 2020 were not affected by the pandemic as their examinations completed before the closure of educational institutions.
But the HSC examinations were badly affected by the Covid-19 because the Education Ministry could not hold the HSC examinations amid the pandemic.
Finally the authority decided to give auto-promotion to the HSC examinees on the basis of their JSC and SSC results.
The Covid-19 effect was very severe and the classes were not held properly.
As a result, the ministry, in 2021, held both the SSC and HSC examinations in November and December respectively after curtailing the syllabi.
