Staff Reporter :
The Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and equivalent examinations scheduled for February 24 and 25 may be rescheduled on account of the by-polls of Dhaka North City Corporation.
The new date of the examinations will be announced soon.
The SSC and its equivalent examinations of 2018 had to begin on February 2 and continue until February 26.
Acting secretary of Election Commission Helal Uddin Ahmed confirmed the matter, after attending a meeting with chairmen of Dhaka Education Board, Madrasah Education Board and Technical Education Board at the secretariat in the afternoon.
“Upon our request, they have agreed to postpone SSC and its equivalent examinations dates whereof dates are February 24 and 25.”
Though there are no legal barriers in holding the polls on time, the ministry of Local Government has requested the Commission to go ahead the polls. If there were legal issues, they would not have made the request.”
Election schedule will be fixed by mid-January, said the official.
The elections for the 36 newly formed wards and 12 reserved women councilor posts of both north and south city corporations will also be held in the 4th week of February, 2018.
The DNCC mayor post fell vacant with the death of Annisul Huq on November 30 last.
