SSC candidate shot dead in Gopalganj

An SSC candidate was reportedly shot dead by a former Union Parishad (UP) member during a dispute between two rival groups in Bongram village under Gopalganj Sadar upazila on Thursday morning. At least 12 persons were also injured in the clash.
The victim was identified as Sheikh Roni, 16, son of one Anwar Sheikh, an
inhabitant of Bongram east area. Roni was supposed to seat for the upcoming SSC examination this year.
Local sources said that a long dispute has been going on between Sheikh and Molla groups over establishing supremacy. Folks of the two clans got into a clash on Thursday morning. That time, Azizur Sheikh, a former UP member of Ward No-3, fired a bullet, killing Roni on the spot.
Monirul Islam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gopalganj Sadar Police Station, confirmed the matter to the media that additional police have been deployed to calm the tensed situation. Additional Superintendent of Police (Circle) Mohammad Sanowar Hossain also visited the spot, the police official said.
