A Sri Lankan parliamentary delegation led by the country’s Speaker Karu Jayasurya has met Deputy Speaker Mohammad Fazle Rabbi Miah at the latter’s office here on Sunday.
The 8-member Sri Lanka delegation is now on a visit to Dhaka to glorify the formal journey of Sri Lanka-Bangladesh Parliamentary Association scheduled to kick off on June 9.
Fazle Rabbi welcomed the delegation and said the new forum would significantly contribute to the improvement of parliamentary democracies in both the countries. He also thanked Sri Lanka for extending its support to Bangladesh during Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) and Inter Parliamentary Union (IPU) elections.
Karu Jayasurya appreciated Bangladesh government’s pro-development activities and its far-sighted diplomacy, and expressed his happiness over the election of Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury as CPA chairperson and Saber Hossain Chowdhury as IPU president.
