Sri Lanka completed their Group A campaign of the Islami Bank Asian Games Hockey Qualifiers on winning note beating Chinese Taipei by 3-2 goals at the Maulana Bhasani National Hockey Stadium here on Wednesday.
With the day’s maiden victory in their 3rd and last group match, Sri Lanka secured four points from three matches while Chinese Taipei remained at their previous credit of three points, also from three outings.
Midfielder Chang Chia Ming put Chinese Taipei ahead in the 18th minute as he sounded board from the edge of the D-box, capitalizing on a neat pass from Hu Chun Che (1-0).
Sri Lankan forward Lahiru Gihan Weerasooriya leveled the margin in the 30th minute by a soft push after beating opponent defenders with nice stick work (1-1).
Mohamed Mulafer scored the 2nd goal for Sri Lanka in the 50th minute, sending the ball into the far post with an upward push from a goalmouth melee (2-1).
Forward Lahiru further sounded the margin scoring his 2nd goal, the 3rd goal for Sri Lanka, in the 61st minute as he dived forward to place the ball past Taipei goalie Chen Shi Min (3-1).
Hu Chun Che reduced the margin for Chinese Taipei in the 63rd minute with a light touch, off a combined move (3-2).
Later, Lahiru Gihan Weerasooriya of Sri Lanka was adjudged the man of the match.
