Sri Lanka set final clash with India in U-19 Asia Cup

Nuwanidu Fernando scored a responsible century as Sri Lanka beat Afghanistan by 31 runs on Friday to set final clash with India in the ACC U-19 Asia Cup held at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur.
The final will be held on Sunday (October 7) at the same venue.
Fernando hit eight boundaries and three over boundaries to score 111-run from 129-ball to help Sri Lanka to post a decent total of 209 for 7 from their allotted 50 overs after they were reduced to 4 for 42 in the second semifinal encounter.
Nipun Dananjaya (27), Kalana Perera (22) and Pasindu Sooriyabandara (19 n.o) started good but could not convert those into a big knocks after Sri Lanka were forced to bat first by Afghanistan.
Abdul Rahman was the pick of Afghanistan bowler as he claimed three Sri Lankan’s wickets conceding 3 for 42 runs.
Chasing a winning target of 210 runs set by Sri Lanka, Afghanistan found the chase stiff and eventually dismissed at 178 in 48.3 overs.
Skipper Rahmanullah Gurbaz top scored with 46 runs while Ijaz added 37 in the middle as the Afghan batsmen failed to build any effective partnership to chase the total.
Baseer Khan (27) and Reaz Hussan (15) were the other notable scorers for Afghan side.
Shashika Dulshan was the most successful bowler for Sri Lanka as he hauled four Afghan’s wickets conceding 24 runs. He was well supported by Navod Paranavithana and Kalhara Senarathne who bagged two wickets each for 17 and 41 runs respectively.
Earlier, India confirmed their final spot in the tournament edging past host Bangladesh by two runs in the first semi-final.
