Sri Lanka clinched the ODI series 2-0 after beating Bangladesh by seven wickets in the second ODI at R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Sunday.
Electing to bat first, Bangladesh scored 238 for the loss of eight wickets in the stipulated 50 overs.
In reply, Sri Lanka reached the winning target making 242 for the loss of three wickets when they had 32 balls to spare.
‘Mr Dependable’ Mushfiqur Rahim restored some parity for Bangladesh. He remained unbeaten with 98.
Sri Lanka had a good start as openers Avishka
Fernando and Dimuth Karunaratne contributed together 71 runs in the opening stand before Karunaratne (15) was cleanly bowled out by Mehidy Hasan Miraz.
Then Fernando and Kusal Perera contributed together 58 runs for the second wicket partnership before Fernando was caught at the mid-on by Tamim Iqbal off Mustafizur Rahman when Sri Lanka’s score was 129 for the loss of two wickets.
Fernando hit a marvelous 82. His 75-ball innings saw nine fours and two sixes.
Then Kusal Perera (30) was caught at the short cover by Soumya Sarkar off Mustafizur Rahman when Lanka’s total was 146 for the loss of three wickets.
After Kusal’s departure, Kusal Mendis and Angelo Mathews guided their team to earn the victory. Mendis remained unbeaten with 41, while Angelo Mathews remained unbeaten with 52.
Mustafizur Rahman bagged two wickets at the cost of 50 runs, while Miraz took one wicket for 51 runs.
