Global Environment Facilities (GEF) funded “Development of Sustainable Renewable Energy Power Generation (SREPGen)” project signed a financing agreement on “Diffusion of Plug & Play solar systems to low-income households” with Infrastructure Development Company Ltd. (IDCOL) in the city recently.
The project is implemented by Power Division through Sustainable and Renewable Energy Development Authority (SREDA) and United Nations Development Program (UNDP), Bangladesh are jointly implementing SREPGen project.
One of the major objectives of REPGen project is to ensure access to electricity for low-income households by supplying plug and play solar systems that do not have the capacity to buy Solar Home System (SHS).
Under the contract SREPGen project will provide USD 2 million as grant to IDCOL. The grant will be US$ 20 per system. The buy down grant will help the poor people to afford the system at a cheaper price. The project targets installing100,000 Plug & Play systems. The program will follow the same modality of the existing solar home program of IDCOL in the off grid areas of Bangladesh.
Md. Anwarul Islam Sikder,ndc, NPD of SREPGen & Chairman of SREDA and Mahmood Malik, ED & CEO of IDCOL executed the agreement from their respective organizations. The signing ceremony was conducted by Md. Monwar Hasan Khan, Project Manager, SREPGen project. Representatives from Power Division, SREDA, UNDP, IDCOL are present in the signing ceremony.
