At least 10 leaders and activists of Sramik Dal, the labour wing of BNP, were injured in a clash between two factions of the organisation centering election of its Dhaka South chapter.
The clash ensued immediate after the announcement of the election result around 5:00pm in which Amir Khashru and Mahbubul Alam were elected as president and general
secretary respectively, BNP central office sources said.
The activists loyal to the defeated candidates Suman Bhuiyan and Sabuj Mia launched a blistering attack on the followers of the winning candidates, said Jafrul Hasan, who conducted the election.
They also vandalised the central office of Sramik Dal inside the BNP headquarter at Naya Paltan in the capital.
Later, central BNP leaders brought the situation under control half-an-hour into the clash.
Anwar Hossain and Nurul Islam Nasim, president and general secretary of Central Sramik Dal were among the injured.
The injured were rushed to nearby hospitals.
