The fire that broke out at Square Pharmaceuticals’ factory in Kaliakoir upazila of Gazipur on Monday was brought under control after seven hours.
The fire originated inside the factory’s newly-introduced large-volume parenteral unit at around 12:30 pm and was extinguished after seven hours, said Saiful Islam, inspector of Kaliakoir Fire Service and Civil Defence’s warehouse.
Nineteen firefighting units engaged to douse the blaze.
Abdul Hamid, Deputy Director of Gazipur Fire Service said that it took a long time to put out the fire due to the vast amount of liquid chemicals, plastics and machine sheets stored inside.
The cause of the fire and the extent of the damage are yet to be ascertained, he added.
