Condemned war criminal Salauddin Quader Chowdhury, a standing committee member of the BNP, has decided to file review petition with the Supreme Court against his death penalty for war crimes. His lawyer Advocate Huzzatul Islam on Tuesday said that Salauddin Quader Chowdhury permitted them to file the review petition. The review petition will be filed by October 15, said the lawyer after he met his client at Kashimpur Jail in Gazipur in the afternoon. He spent about two hours there.
He further said, they have already informed the Chief Prosecutor of the tribunal about filing the review petition. Huzzatul Islam said that Salauddin Quader Chowdhury pointed out some grounds, which would be mentioned in the review petition. He, however, did not disclose the grounds.
He also said, Salauddin Quader Chowdhury, also a former minister, is mentally and physically well.
On September 30, the Supreme Court released the full verdicts awarding death penalty to Salauddin Quader Chowdhury and Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Ali Ahsan Muhammad Mojaheed for crimes against humanity during the Liberation War in 1971. The death warrants were issued against the duo on October 1. Later, the jail authorities read out the death warrants to the two leaders. Ali Ahsan Muhammad Mojaheed has earlier also decided to file review petition against the verdict. The Jamaat leader on October 3 instructed his lawyers in this regard.
