Spurious edible oil recovered, 5 convicted

District administration of Chittagong convicted 5 persons including one edible oil factory owner and 4 employees with different jail terms and cash penalty for alleged involved with the packaging and marketing of adulterated edible oil without following the rules of BSTI and BSTI registration in the port city on Monday .
 Sources said mobile court of district administration in their routine drive against the food adulteration and price hike of essential commodities sealed six oil refining factory in Baizid area under Baizid thana in city on Monday.
y morning and recovered about 25 thousand liters of adulterated edible oil from these factories.
 RAB sources said acting on secret information, RAB-7 forces conducted raid in these factories and later BSTI officials and District Administration Mobile court led by Executive magistrate Tamim Al Yameen joined with the RAB team, sources said. Mobile court sources said some unscrupulous traders built up six small size oil factories in the area hiring small space of the buildings without the legal authentication for running the oil refining factory.
 Instantly mobile court sealed off these oil factories and convicted five owners of these factories with different jail terms ranging from six to 9 months and cash penalty of Tk.1.50 lakh , sources said. Out of convicts, owner of Minar Soyaben Oil Co Md. Shihabuddin (38) given with 9 months jail term and cash penalty of Tk.1.50 lakh.
The other convicts are Md. Arif, Altaf Hossain, Md. Salahuddin and Moinuddin, all of them are the employees of Shaheen Soyabean Factory given 6 months jail each, sources said.
