An unscrupulous gang is running pharmaceutical drug business through producing spurious medicines and repacking the time expired drugs procuring from different pharmacy shops of the city.
These unscrupulous gang either using their own unauthorized factory name or using the popular brand factory name. A district administration mobile team accompanied by RAB forces unearthed a such a fake factory at Khulsi in city on Thursday . Acting on secret information, mobile court led by Executive Magistrate Rakib Hasan conducted raid in a five storied building of Khulsi No.4 road where traced the existence of two medicine factories named Pharmik Labortories and its sister concern Brothers Laboratory. The authority of these factories could not show any valid documents infavour of the medicine factory.
Mobile court team sealed off the factories instantly and recovered huge quantities of time expired medicines of different companies and spurious medicine products . Manager of the factory Sadhan Biswas has been convicted with 2 years imprisonment and penalty of Tk.2 lakh .The fake factory is located behind the Khulsi mart in Khulsi in a 5 storied building and the fake factories were using 4th and 5th floor of the building, sources said.
Sources said spurious medicines of 20 items like medicines of different groups of antibiotics, gastric tablets and syrups, folic acid, omeprazole, orsaline, cevit and a number of gastroentrology syrups. It was found that time expired syrups are being pasted with new level with new expiry date . Sources said these spurious medicine manufacturers in connivance with the drug shops collect time expired medicines with nominal prices and repack these medicines with new expiry date for marketing.
Another pharmacy shop sources said these spurious medicines are sold with less price than the MRP and the unscrupulous pharmacy owners sells these spurious medicines aimed at high profit. Mobile court sources said all types of gastric capsules and tablets are manufactured with only ingredients of flour and suji and the syrups with sugar, colour and other liquid gels etc. Mentionable that similar spurious medicine factory was unearthed at Agrabad area in city two years ago . According to consciouscirles, a number of such kind of unauthorised spurious medicine factories are running their business very secretly in Chittgong and the administration should be more cautious to detect these fake factories gradually to get rid of the live risk of the innocent people .
Moreover, the pharmacy owners should be warned to refrain from selling these spurious medicines at any cost and it detected such medicines in their shops ,they will be dealth with seriously, sources said.
