However, apart from the retreating winter the seasonal changes in the nature are fast vanishing. Lesser numbers of greenery and water bodies in the capital have triggered the weather patterns to change fast. On top of it, it has become almost impossible to distinguish the six seasons in Bangladesh today. For the past few years it’s only possible to distinguish only three seasons – summer, monsoon and winter. It also speaks of how climate change has affected our seasons.
The point, however, the joy of festivity, donning of colorful attires, exchange of greetings and the bliss of joyful celebrations in Bangladesh are being often diminished because of manmade organized chaos. As the first day of spring has been observed – now it will be the same set of dilemmas and improbabilities coming back to haunt our daily lives. Actually it is the spirit of the season, blooming of flowers and the hope of a brighter future which are greatly missed.
That said – not merely as a festive season – for the countless millions of Bangladeshis Falgun or spring for that matter arrives with three very important messages – no winter lasts forever, there’s always a chance to start over and there is beauty beneath the surface. Those who draw the simple practical lessons from the season emerge with hope and change for the better and those who don’t can well turn a season of hope into turmoil.
