The government on Thursday halted the spot registration for Covid-19 vaccination at health facility centers.
Health Minister Zahid Maleque announced the decision when massive pressure of people overwhelmed hospitals for seeking jabs in almost all the 1005 inoculation centers across the country.
“As a sufficient number of online registrations have been found, we have halted this initiative until further notice,” the minister said in a program of the Directorate General of Family Planning (DGFP) in a Dhaka hotel.
“There were found rise of the spot registrations in the past few days. This is hindering the process of inoculations. Thus this system will not continue anymore. From now on, one has to successfully complete online registration for getting the vaccine,” the health minister said.
On spot visit, it was found that people rushed to the inoculations centers including Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), and Kurmitola General Hospital on Thursday, but they were not allowed to be registered.
DMCH sources said that they vaccinated 960 people on Wednesday. Among them only 400 people were registered through online and 560 persons were vaccinated after spot registration.
Similarly the other hospitals also immunized many more people after the spot registration.
BSMMU Vice-Chancellor Professor Kanak Kanti Barua told journalists that it is difficult to manage physical registration and vaccination efforts at the same time.
He said also that this facility could be provided to those people who have no access to the internet or those who are technologically underprivileged.
On Thursday, a total of 2,04,540 people were inoculated across the country. A total of 5,42,309 people have been vaccinated in the country so far.
Besides, 86 people reported adverse event following immunization (EFI) on the day.
