State Minister for Youth and Sports Dr. Biren Sikder, MP, said the much awaited Sports policy is going to be announced soon.
The minister was talking to the sports journalists on Thursday during his visit to Bangladesh Sports Journalist Association (BSJA) office just beside the NSC tower.
Sports have suffered badly for not having an exclusive policy of its own as the previous policy was done way back in the early 80’s which had many loopholes, so a new reformed policy is badly needed for the development and smooth running of sports in the country, the minister said.
“It was a difficult job but we knew how important a sports policy is for the sports fraternity, it is almost done and will be announced soon, said Sikder.
National Sports Council will hold an Anti-Terrorism Rally with a view to transmit the message of peace, tolerance and friendship in the society through sports on September 7, 2016, the minister disclosed this while talking to BSJA members.
Sikder said, “We believe sports can be a strong medium to transmit the message to the young generation as well as to the society. We will involve renowned names of all sports disciplines and the federations in the rally, the rally will start from the Bangabandhu National Stadium and will end at
the National Press Club”.
The secretary of National Sports Council Ashoke Chowdhury was also present on the occasion. He said, “Today I presided a meeting at the Secretariat in order to make this programme successful and on August 22 we are inviting all the federations and respective sports bodies to a meeting to organize a big successful anti-terrorism rally.”
Sports minister discussed about the condition prevailing around the Bangabandhu National Stadium. He said, “We will ensure full security for the athletes of different federation so that they can perform their duties at ease. No one will be allowed to use this place for any other adverse activities.
He said the National Sports Council has already taken a vast project for the training programmes to nurture talented athletes from the grassroots level with the project costing Taka 15.10 crore. A total of 31 federations have already started their quest to gather talents from the grassroots level across the country.
BSJA acting president Aghore Mondal, general secretary Raihan Al Mughni, senior members Monjurul Haque. Ajay Barua. Syed Mamun, Motaher Hossain Masum, Mustafa Kamal and other BSJA executive committee members were present on the occasion.
