Sports organiser Sirajul Islam Bachchu dies

Sirajul Islam Bachchu, renowned sports organiser and former general secretary of South Asian Football Federation (SAFF), Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) and traditional Wari Club, died in the city on Sunday. He was 71.
Bachchu breathed his last at Dhaka Medical College Hospital at 4pm after suffering from various complications, including kidney diseases, for long.
Bachchu, a celibate, also served as the BFF executive committee member and chairman of BFF women’s football committee till his death.
He also served the Bangladesh Olympic Association (BOA) and Bangladesh Volleyball Federation in different capacities and was a life member of Bangladesh Sports Press Association (BSPA).
The body of the sports organiser was brought to Wari Club in the evening while his namaz-e-janaza will be held at the BFF House in Motijheel at 8:30pm today.
He will be buried at his family graveyard in Jessore on Monday.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh Football Federation, Bangladesh Women’s Sports Association, Bangladesh Sports Press Association and Bangladesh Volleyball Federation expressed deep shock at the death of Sirajul Islam Bachchu.
