Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid on Wednesday said sports and physical exercise play a important role in developing physical and mental growth and leadership quality of students.
He said sports and cultural exercise is also an urgent for their physical and mental fitness and that is why the government has taken various initiatives for skill development in sports.
The Education Minister was speaking the inauguration ceremony of 47th Winter National Madrasa and Technical Education Sports competition at Bangabandhu Udyan here.
He said the future generation will have to be honest, capable and patriotic citizens, so students should acquire leadership quality.
Nahid said sports and cultural activities can also protect the students from drugs addiction and militancy.
Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board directorate M Mahbubur Rahman presided over the opening ceremony of the competition.
State Minister for Technical and Madrasa Education Board Kazi Keramot Ali, local lawmaker lawmaker Zebunnessa Afroze, Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board Secretary M Sohrab Hossain, Technical and Madrasa Education Board Secretary Mohammad Alamgir, Barisal Metropolitan Police Commissioner SM Ruhul Amin and Barisal Education Board chairman Ziaul Haque were, among others, present on the occasion.
