Split in DCC harms DSC, says Mayor Khokon

Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Mohammad Sayeed Khokon on Sunday said that the division in the Dhaka City Corporation harmed the south city area.
“The division which made the city two parts in 2011 has seriously affected the south city area. After the division, the Dhaka North City gets 60 percent revenue, while the south city gets 40 percent. On the other hand, the south city bears 60 percent of expenditures, while the north bears 40 percent of expenditures. It is a serious disparity,” Mayor Khokon said while addressing a view exchange meeting at

the Mayor Hanif Auditorium of the Nogor Bhaban.
The DSCC mayor presided over the meeting, while the Local Government and Rural Development Minister Tajul Islam was the chief guest in the programme.
DSCC mayor said, “It is highly necessary to establish a city government to ensure modern facilities of the citizens. I have reiterated the demand to form city government and placed the proposal to the LGRD minister.”
The mayor also said, the city corporation needs to increase its revenue. For this reason, it took step to assess taxes in its jurisdiction before the 11thh national polls, but the LGRD ministry stopped that through a notification.
He that the corporation is suffering from insufficient manpower.
