Speakers at a discussion on Sunday suggested special sanction for the pregnant mothers in the upcoming national budget with a view to getting a healthy nation.
The government sanctions Tk 500 monthly for each pregnant woman. It is not sufficient for them because a pregnant mother needs rich foods to keep their health secure. So the allocation should be Tk 1000 per month during the pregnancy period, they said.
The speakers said this at a discussion titled “12 years of Mother’s Day in Bangladesh: the Mother’s Dream in Sustainable Development” held in the Seminar Hall of Ittefaq office in the capital’s Karwan Bazar on Sunday.
The Daily Ittefaq and Development Organisation of the Rural Poor (DORP) jointly organised the discussion to mark the International Mother’s Day.
Acting Editor of the Daily Ittefaq Tasmima Hossain presided over the programme, while State Minister for Public Administration Ismat Ara Sadique was present as the chief guest.
Begum Fazilatunnesa Bappy, MP, Kazi Roji, MP, Begum Nasima Ferdousi, MP, former MP Poet Rubi Rahman, Director General of Directorate of Women Affairs Shahin Ahmed Chowdhury, former Principal of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College Hosne Ara Begum, former Chairman of Gender and Studies Department of Dhaka University Tania Haque and Managing Editor of the Daily Ittefaq Ashish Saikot spoke at the programme as the special guests, while Staff Reporter of the Daily Ittefaq Rabeya Bebi moderated it.
Founder of DORP AHM Noman presented the keynote paper at the programme.
