‘Spl ambulance service in dist & UZs for expecting mothers’

Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammad Nasim disclosed that the government is going to introduce special ambulance service for the expecting mothers at district and upazila-level for safe delivery of their new-born children.
“The common expecting mothers can avail this special ambulance service for delivery of their new-born babies at the health centres. This initiative (service) will soon be implemented for the expecting mothers,” he said.
The minister said this on Monday while speaking as the chief guest at a roundtable discussion on “Our commitment is to ensure standard service for all the expecting mothers” organised by the daily Prothom Alo with assistance from the UNICEF at the daily’s office at Karwan Bazar in the city.
Director General of Health Economy unit of the Health Ministry Asadul Islam, High Commissioner of Canada BenoOt-Pierre Laram,e, Bangladesh Representative of Korean Cooperation Agency Jo Hyun Gui and senior officials of the Family Planning Directorate, UNICEF, ICDDRB, Save the Children and USAID were present.
Disclosing that the minimum age of girls to get married would be 18, Mohammad Nasim said, “Child marriage is a big impediment to safe delivery of new born babies. The government has already taken initiatives of poverty alleviation, raising of the rate of literacy, economic emancipation of women and their empowerment to prevent child marriage.”
