Police arrested a “spiritual healer” for allegedly raping a woman in the name of treatment in Nandail upazila of Mymensingh on Sunday night.
The accused was identified as Moqbul Hossain, 60, of Duttapur village in the upazila.
According to the statement of the case filed by the victim with Nandail Police Station last night, Moqbul, a “spiritual healer”, raped the woman in the name of treatment on Sunday night.
The woman, who hailed from Mollarhat in Bagerhat and works at a garment factory in Dhaka, went to Moqbul’s house on November 5, seeking help in “reestablishing her relationship with her estranged husband”.
Then, Moqbul asked the woman to stay at his house for seven days for the “treatment”, and raped her on the day of her arrival. He also attempted to rape her on Sunday, according to the case statement.
However, the woman managed to flee and reached the police station Sunday evening and lodged the case accusing Moqbul, said Mizanur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Nandail Police Station.
Police arrested Moqbul from his house around 10:00pm on Sunday night.
The woman was taken to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for medical test today.
The arrestee was produced before a Mymensingh court which sent him to jail this noon, the OC said.
