City Desk :
Speakers at discussion demanded for speedy completion of the war crimes trial in building a razakar-free Bangladesh to pay due respect to the martyred intellectuals during the War of Liberation.
Rangpur divisional unit of ‘Muktijuddher Smriti Sangrakkhan Parishad (MSSP)’ organised the discussion on Friday in observance of the ‘Dokhiganj Shwashan Baddhyabhumi Dibash (DSBD)’, martyrdom day of 10 intellectuals, at Dokhiganj in Rangpur.
The MSSP and relatives of the 10 martyred intellectuals chalked out elaborate daylong programmes including placing wreaths at ‘Dokhiganj Shwashan Baddhyabhumi’ and discussion there in observance of the day.
The Pakistani demons with their local collaborators including Razakars, Al-badrs and Beharis caught 11 brilliant Bangalees from the city on March 27 in 1971 and took them to Rangpur cantonment, where they were put under barbaric torture. Later in the small hours of April 4 during the War of Liberation in 1971, the Pakistani blood-hungry soldiers and their local collaborators took them to Dokhiganj Shwashan area near the city and gunned them down.
By the grace of the Almighty, one of them, Awami League leader Dr Dinesh Chandra Bhowmik alias Montu Daktar, who received eight bullets, escaped the death during the indiscriminate firing. He later joined the Freedom Fighters after treatments in India.
The martyrs are: Advocate Mahfuz Ali Zorjes, Durga Das Adhikari, Dhirendranath Shanti Chaki, Khitish Halder, Gopal Chandra, Ehsanul Haque Dulal, Tofazzal Hossain Moharram, Rafiqul Islam Rafique, Uttam Kumar Adhikari and Pagla Darbesh. Convener of MSSP Advocate Rothish Chandra Babu Sona presided over the discussion arranged last evening at the mass slaughtering site.
