A human chain has been formed by local people on Monday by the side of Sanuhar-Dhamura Road under Bamrail union in Wazirpur upazila of Barisal demanding speedy trial and exemplary punishment of abduction and brutal killing of eight months old Mariam Aktar.
Participants of the programme blamed local Jamaat e Islami leader Abu Bakar Siddik for that abduction and killing.
The programme was presided over by Gouranga Lal Karmakar, former chairman of Bamrail union parishad and addressed among others by Babul Hossain, Nilufa Begum, member of the local UP, Haris Bepari, local ward AL president.
The speakers said Mariam was brutally abducted and killed by the local JIB leader Abu Bakar over old rivalry with the family members of the victim.
They said police was not investigating the matter properly ignoring the hole created on the tinned fence of the house for abduction and other evidences.
Eight month old Mariam Aktar became missing while sleeping with mother in home and after searching dead body of the child recovered from a nearby pond at Hostishunda village under Wazirpur upazila of Barisal on early August 19.
Fatema Begum, 20, mother of the victim was living at the village home of her husband with only daughter Mariam and in-laws.
Husband Nazrul Islam was working at marketing department of a private company in Dhaka.
Fatema Begum at about 1:30 AM early August 19 rushed to Wazirpur police station complained that her only daughter became missing from bed and entrance door of the house was open.
Then police rushed to the spot and with the help of the locals searching the area recovered dead body of Mariam from a nearby pond at about 3:30 AM.
Nurul Islam, Wazirpur police station officer in charge, said father of the victim lodged a murder case in this connection without mentioning name of any suspected accused.
However police investigating the case seriously and hoping to arrest the abductor and killer soon, the OC of Wazirpur PS told.
