Special drives for removal of wastes of sacrificial animals from capital end

The special drive for removal of tons of wastes of animals sacrificed on the holy occasion of the Eid-ul-Azha ended in the capital city.
Elected mayors of both Dhaka South and Dhaka North City Corporations assured the city-dwellers while launching the drive at 2 pm on the Eid-day (Tuesday) that the wastes of sacrificial animals would be removed from all the localities within 48 hours. In accordance with their assurance, wastes of sacrificial animals had been removed well ahead of the committed time. Mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Sayeed Khokon and Mayor of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Anisul Haque claimed this while speaking at press conferences yesterday. Most of the city-dwellers expressed satisfaction over the special drive for removal of wastes of sacrificial animals conducted by both the city corporations. They also hailed the DSCC and DNCC authorities for their work. This time, officers and workers of both the city corporations gave extra importance on removal of wastes from all the city localities since launching of the special drive. A total of 13,000 workers of conservancy departments of both the city corporations rushed to localities and removed the wastes using vans and trucks soon after sacrifice of animals. Speaking at a press conference on the drive at DNCC Conference Room Thursday noon, Mayor Anisul Haque said, “We have removed all the wastes of animals sacrificed on the holy occasion of Eid-ul-Azha within the 48-hour deadline. The city this year is much cleaner than the previous year’s post-Eid period.” He said that a total of 1,97,535 animals had been sacrificed within the jurisdiction of five zones of DNCC and 7,800 tons of wastes had so far been removed.
With an identical claim, Mayor of DSCC Sayeed Khokon while speaking at a press conference at Nagar Bhaban said, “We have become successful in removing 100 percent wastes of sacrificial animals ahead of the 48-hour timeframe. The DSCC removed a total of 19,008 tons of wastes of sacrificial animals.”
He said wastes of sacrificial animals had been removed from the localities within the jurisdiction of DSCC by using 324 vehicles including the vehicles in DSCC fleet by operating a total of 2902 trips. “Nearly 2.40 lakh animals had been sacrificed within DSCC areas on the holy occasion of Eid-ul-Azha this year,” Khokon added.
