There was special arrangement in the public hospitals during the holy Eid-ul-Fitr. Patients did not face troubles in getting healthcare services in the public
hospitals in the capital during Eid holidays. There was no major allegation that the doctors, officers and employees did not attend duties in places of their work this time. There was special arrangement for extending healthcare services in the public hospitals in accordance with the instruction of Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammad Nasim. Important departments of the hospitals, including the emergency, were in operation round the clock.
Mohammad Nasim said, “It’s the sacred duty of our government to extend services to the people. We were alert earlier as the doctors usually enjoy Eid holidays. Instruction was given to all concerned earlier so that the patients did not face any problem regarding treatment in the public hospitals in absence of doctors. I personally monitored during the holidays so that patients did not suffer from treatment facilities.” Like the previous years, the number of admitted patients dropped by one/third in the public hospitals during the Eid vacation. On an average 2,500 to 3,000 patients get admitted every day in Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH). The number dropped to 800 on an average over the three-day Eid vacation that ended on Wednesday.
Under the special arrangement, staffs of DMCH including doctors and nurses attended their duties in shifts this year while its emergency department was in operation round the clock during the period.
Besides, healthcare services in the Mitford Hospital, Suhrawardy Hospital, Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases, Kidney Hospital, Cancer Institute and other public hospitals in the city had been rendered round the clock during the period. In compliance with the instruction of the Health Minister, Director General of the Health Directorate Prof Dr Deen Md Nurul Islam and other senior officers of the directorate visited different hospitals in the city on the Eid-day and the day after. Prof Dr Deen Md Nurul Islam said though there was allegation of mismanagement in public hospitals during the Eid holidays in the previous years, no such allegation was raised this year. He said that doctors, nurses, officers and employees discharged their duties in shifts to ensure healthcare services during the Eid vacation this year.
