Ebola outbreak: Special alert on all ports

The government has issued a special alert at all the land, river ports and airport immigration centres for the
next 90 days to prevent Ebola virus from getting into Bangladesh.
Health Minister Mohammad Nasim told this to reporters after a special meeting on the issue of preventing the Ebola infection at the Secretariat on Sunday. The meeting was held as per the recommendation of the World Health Organisation (WHO).
The minister said, a committee will be formed with the Health Secretary in the chair to chalk out and monitor the vigilance against spread of the deadly virus.
This committee will appoint field level officials at the ports and immigration points and start the monitoring within the next 24 hours, he said, adding that representatives of the Health Ministry, Home Affairs Ministry, Armed Forces, Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research, Civil Aviation Authority, Armed Forces and the immigration
services will be incorporated in the committee. Nasim also noted that state of the art thermometers will be provided to the members of the field vigilance teams.
Special vigilance will be undertaken at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport and 20 seats in the Kurmitola Hospital have been reserved for the emergency treatment of any suspected Ebola infected person, he added.
The Health Minister said, according to WHO, Ebola virus disease has so far been detected in four African countries – Nigeria, Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leon.
