Speakers for more budgetary allocation in essential sectors

Speakers in a function here on Tuesday stressed the need for more budgetary allocation in very essential sectors including health, education and agriculture.
“An emphasis should be given to search the well off persons and to bring them under tax network in a bid to increase the revenue income and to utilize it for the welfare of the country”, they said.
They made the comments while addressing a post budget discussion meeting at district level in the hall room of Sinnomul Mohila Samity (SMS) of the town here in the afternoon.
Campaign for Good Governance, district committee, arranged the function in cooperation with Oxfam.
Sadar UNO Ashraful Momin Khan addressed the function as the chief guest and president of Paribesh Andolan, Gaibandha Waziur Rahman Raphel and district correspondent of national news agency Sarker M Shahiduzzaman were present as the special guests.
With president of Campaign for Good Governance, district committee, and executive director of SMS Murshedur Rahman Khan in the chair, the function was also addressed, among others, by general secretary Zillur Rahman Khandkar, journalists Quazi Ziaul Hafiz and Asaduzzaman Mamun and social worker Shamsul Haque Madhu.
The speakers also demanded to bring Gaibandha district under district budget to push forward the underdeveloped district towards development.
They also expressed their deep concern over the work under Annual Development Programme as only 54 percent work had been done so far during the current fiscal year.
In this context, they urged all concerned to implement the work of ADP properly to ensure welfare activities of the people.
They also advised the government to hold pre budget meetings with the people at grass roots level and accordingly to formulate the budget by which their recommendations were reflected.
More than 50 persons including social workers, teachers, public representative and the journalist took part in the meeting.
